Semantics of clasifiers: an experimental study

Anotácia:

Tato bakalářská diplomová práce se věnuje sémantice klasifikátorů. Teoretická část je věnovaná charakteristice počitatelných a nepočitatelných jmen, jejich klasifikaci a distribuci v různých jazycích světa. V praktické části je představen experiment, testující dva klasifikátory - český klasifikátor kus a ruský klasifikátor štuka. Experiment zkoumá přijatelnost daných slov rodilými mluvčími v určitých kontextech. Cílem této diplomové práce je studium systému klasifikátorů a porovnání na první pohled stejných klasifikátorů v příbuzných jazycích.

Abstract:

The present bachelor thesis deals with the semantics of classifiers. The theoretical part describes the distinction between mass and count nouns, how these nouns are spread all over the world, and brieflly explains what is the difference between them. The practical part is about the experiment constructed for the thesis. There were combined Czech classifier kus and Russian classifier štuka. The experiment investigates how native speakers accept these terms in the given contexts. The goal of the the thesis are the study of the classifier system and a comparison of two at first sight identical classifiers from related languages.
