Leaving the children's home and a path to adulthood as a two life transitions

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce bylo zjištění a porozumění zkušenostem s tranzicí mladých dospělých z dětského domova do samostatného života. V teoretické části se zaměřuji v první kapitole na popis péče o dítě mimo jeho rodinné prostředí z pohledu náhradní rodinné péče a ústavní péče. Ve druhé kapitole popisuji náležitosti pobytu v dětském domově, kde zmiňuji i možnosti hostitelské péče. Třetí kapitola je zaměřená tranzici z dětského domova do samostatného života, kde se zabývám potížemi spojenými s tranzicí a také popisuji možnosti pomoci a podpory mladých dospělých v této obtížné životní situaci. V praktické části popisuji metodu kvalitativního výzkumu s použitím polostrukturovaných rozhovorů. Ty jsem provedla s pěti respondenty, kteří jsou bývalými klienty dětského domova. Data, která jsem z rozhovorů zjistila, mi pomohla při identifikaci zkušeností a názorů mladých dospělých na tranzici nebo také na celkovou připravenost na samostatný život mimo instituci.

Abstract:

The main aim of this bachelor's thesis was to identify and understand the transition experiences of young adults from residential care to independent living. In the theoretical part, I focused in the first chapter on describing the care of a child outside his/her family environment from the perspective of foster care and residential care. In the second chapter I describe the requirements of staying in a children's home, where I also mention the possibilities of host care. The third chapter focuses on the transition from the children's home to independent life, where I discuss the difficulties associated with the transition and also describe the possibilities of help and support for young adults in this difficult life situation. In the practical section I describe the qualitative research method using semi-structured interviews. I did these interviews with five respondents who are former clients of a children's home. The data I collected from the interviews helped me to identify the young adults' experiences and opinions about transition or also about their overall preparation for independent living outside the institution.
