Czechoslovakian Struggle to Preserve Democracy in the 1930s

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on transformation of Czechoslovak-German relations during the twenties and thirties of the 20th century. In the beginning, the author introduces the reader to complicated living conditions that influenced the subsequent development of the events. The following parts describe in parallel the Czech and German view of mutual relations until the mid-1930s. The main attention is paid to the global economic crisis and the rise of Nazism to power. The subsequent political crisis led to the sacrifice of Czechoslovakia, which was agreed upon by the administration of the appeasement. The thesis is concluded by the analysis of the Munich Conference and the evaluation of Edvard Beneš's work as the most significant Czechoslovak politician of this period.

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá proměnou československo-německých vztahů v průběhu 20. a 30. let 20. století. Úvodem jsou přiblíženy složité poměry po první světové válce, které zásadně ovlivnily následující vývoj událostí. V dalších částech je paralelně popsán český a německý pohled na vzájemné vztahy do poloviny 30. let. Klíčová pozornost je věnována světové hospodářské krizi a nástupu nacismu k moci. Následnou politickou krizi nedokázal appeasement řešit jinak než obětováním Československa. Práci uzavírá rozbor Mnichovské konference a zhodnocení činnosti Edvarda Beneše jako nejvýznamnějšího československého politika tohoto období.
