Management of effective communication of medical staff in the care of women in postupartum period

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá řízením účelné komunikace zdravotnického personálu při péči o ženu v šestinedělí. Ve zdravotnictví je komunikace zásadní pro přenos, sdělování a získávání informací a každý zdravotník by měl mít osvojené základy komunikačních dovedností. Cílem práce bylo analyzovat proces účelného předávání informací mezi porodními asistentkami o ženách v oblasti šestinedělí Průzkumná data byla získána pomocí anonymního online dotazníku vlastní konstrukce, který vycházel ze zahraničního zdroje. Základním podkladem pro tento dotazník byla studie Sunduss B. Dawod zveřejněná v roce 2018 jako Evaluation of Nurse - Midwives Practices Using SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) Communication Tool on Maternal Health Documentation. Soubor respondentů našeho průzkumu tvořilo 134 porodních asistentek pracujících na oddělení šestinedělí. Z výsledků průzkumného šetření bylo zjištěno, že kvalita komunikace porodních asistentek během procesu předávání informací závisí na tom, zda využívají při své práci metodu SBAR. Pro poskytování kvalitní a bezpečné ošetřovatelské péče je zapotřebí, aby uměli všichni zdravotníci efektivně komunikovat, jelikož k většině problémů a chyb při poskytování péče dochází v důsledku neefektivní komunikace.

Abstract:

Diploma thesis looks into conducting purposeful communication of nursing personnel regarding taking care of postpartum women. In public health communication plays an essential role for transmission, sharing and acquiring information and every medical staff member should have knowledge of the basics of communication skills. The aim of this thesis was to analyse the process of purposeful information sharing between midwives concerning women in postpartum area. Research data were acquired through an anonymous online questionnaire of our own design, which was based on a foreign source. Fundamenta material for our questionnaire was the Sunduss B. Dawod study published in 2018 as Evaluation of Nurse - Midwives Practices Using SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) Communication Tool on Maternal Health Documentation. Collective of our respondents was composed of 134 midwives working in postpartum department. Results of our research show that the quality of communication between midwives during the process of sharing information depends on whether they use the SBAR method in their work. For providing quality and safe nursing care it is important for all medical personnel to effectively communicate, due to most problems and errors in nursing care being the result of ineffective communication.
