Analyses of Czech Diplomatic Career: How Do Czech Women Diplomats Perceive Themselves Inside

Abstract:

This research concerns the Czech diplomatic environment and career, analyzing how Czech women diplomats perceive themselves in it. The diplomacy career according to the International Relation Feminist Theory, is a result of social activity and hierarchical politics, making identities and activities that are conceived as belonging to men. This political structure, and distribution of power in politics and diplomacy, reflect an access to resources, power and authority unequal and underprivileged for womens. Through interviews with Czech women diplomats, it was possible to understand their perception of the Czech diplomatic environment as gender balance regarding the number of female employees, but the lack of women representation regarding high positions. Also, they do not perceive themselves as dealing with only soft demands as presented by the theoretical framework.This research as others studies regarding diplomacy, women and international relations helps us better understand and address unequal and oppressive gender relations, which is explained by the International Relation Feminist Theory.
