Pilot solution draft of Report catalog for DHL IT Services

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se v teoretické části zaměřuje na představení reportů obecně, reportingu jako procesu a reporting managementu, čili způsobu řízení reportingu v kontextu ITIL.Reporting je rozebrán z pohledu jeho definice, zmíněny jsou i některé odlišnosti pojmů report a dashboard. Následuje rozdělení reportů do několika důležitých skupin, představení metadat i běžných chyb reportingových aplikací a uvedeny jsou také přínosy reportingu.Reporing management obsahuje vlastní popis a cíle. Práce pokračuje pohledem ITIL na řízení reportingu, zmíněny jsou procesy, informační artefakty i životní cyklus reportů od sběru a analýzy požadavků až po jejich distribuci. Práce se věnuje také definováním klíčových důvodů pro zavedení Report katalogu a jejich spojením s požadavky firmy DHL IT Services, na které navazuje analýza trhu katalogů a výběr kritických prvků, které by takovéto řešení mělo obsahovat.Práce rozebírá mimo jiné i způsob sběru dat do katalogu s pomocí SharePointu s důrazem na některé jeho funkcionality, které jsou pro tento účel užitečné. Cíl práce je naplněn návrhem interního Report katalogu za pomocí SSRS včetně krátkého představení této technologie. Následuje doporučení finálního konceptu řešení ve formě spojení SharePointu a SSRS, které je doplněno o návrh parametrů. Tímto je dodán důraz na přínos Report katalogu pro koncové uživatele. Dalším přínosem práce je zejména představení způsobu tvorby Report katalogu takovou formou, která může být inspirací pro ostatní vyhledávající podobné řešení.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on introduction of reports in general, reporting as a process and reporting management in the context of ITIL.Reporting is analysed as well as its definition, mentioned are also some differences in terminology of a report and a dashboard. This is followed by splitting reports into some important groups, introduction of metadata and usual mistakes in reporting applications, as well as contribution of reporting process.Reporting management contains own description and goals. The thesis also describes view of ITIL on reporting management, mentions processes, information artifacts and report life cycle from collecting and analyzing requests to distribution of reports.This thesis defines some key reasons for introducing Report catalog and its connection to requirements of DHL IT Services, followed by market analysis and selection of critical elements, which should be incorporated in such solution.Mentioned is also analysis of means of collecting data into the Catalog with a help of SharePoint, emphasizing on some of its features, which are especially useful in this case.Objective of the thesis is fulfilled with draft and design of internal Report catalog in SSRS including also short introduction to this technology. This is followed by final recommendation of solution concept in the form of connecting SharePoint and SSRS, which is completed with a concept of parameters. This adds an emphasis on the benefits of the Report catalog for end users. Another benefit of this work is the introduction of a method of creating a Report catalog in a way that can be an inspiration for others seeking a similar solution.
