Oil Price Fluctuations and its Impact on the Russian Economy and Firms

Abstract:

A significant increase of the oil prices in the beginning of the 21st century and a recent sharp plunge of them renewed public and academic interest to the issue of energy energy prices and its impact on the global economic activity. The thesis undertakes an extensive review of the latest researches on that problem. It takes into account the fundamentals of the crude oil prices, its transmission channels and the real effects on economic development on both global and national levels. The study focuses on the latest oil price drop and its impacts on the economic growth of the Russian Federation with the help of official statistical data and analytical review of the macroeconomic variables. The financial and operational results of the largest oil companies in Russia are also going to be examined in this thesis.
