Peer social support of children with problem behaviour

Abstract:

V disertační práci jsme si kladli za cíl postihnout vrstevnické podpůrné procesy, kterým se dítěti s problémovým chováním dostává prostředí preventivně výchovné a institucionální edukace. Teoretickou část práce jsme realizovali za pomocí monografické procedury, ve které komparujeme teoretické konstrukty a výzkumná zjištění o vrstevnických podpůrných procesech. V navazující empirické části práce představujeme autorský smíšený výzkum metodologie QUAN-qual. V kvantitativní části byl výzkumným nástrojem modifikovaný dotazník ISEL - Interpersonal Support Evaluation List (N=171). Význam a pozadí kvantitativních dat odkrýváme v navazujícím šetřením kvalitativním. V této části výzkumného projektu byly užity techniky directed storytelling a kognitivní mapování (N = 32). Výzkumné šetření prokázalo, že vrstevníci jsou nezastupitelným zdrojem sociální opory, poskytují 49 % podpůrných transakcí. Jsou nezastupitelným zdrojem emocionální (skór 1,34) a hodnotící opory (skór 0,94). Významným faktorem tvarujícím vrstevnické podpůrné procesy jsou institucionální podmínky, délka institucionální edukace a délka pobytu dítěte v zařízení. Výsledky této práce ukazují, jakými cestami lze využít intervenčního potenciálu vrstevníků napříč institucionálním prostředím.

Abstract:

The present dissertation deals with the theme of peer social support of children in residential facilities of preventive educational and institutional care. The theoretical part of this work tries to compare theoretical constructs, research findings and current information on peer support collected by different disciplines of social science. The empirical part is based on mixed methodology, falling within the framework of explanatory research of QUAN-QUAL logic. The quantitative part used as research tool modified questionnaire ISEL - Interpersonal Support Evaluation List (N = 171). Significance and background of quantitative data in the subsequent investigation uncovers qualitative research. In this part of the research project, we used techniques directed storytelling and cognitive mapping (N = 32). Our research has shown that the peers represent a considerable support potential, they provide 49 % of social support. They are an unparalleled source of social emotional support (score 1,34) and appraisal support (score 0,94). A major factor shaping these processes is the institutional environment, length of institutional education and the length of the child´s stay in the facility. The research point to possible ways of targeted utilisation of the supporting peer influence on children with problematic behaviour.
