The Face of the Army: a Film Production of the Ministry of National Defence 1929-1939

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá filmovou produkcí ministerstva národní obrany ve 30. letech, kterou tvořila filmová skupina Vojenského technického (a leteckého) ústavu. Za pomocí nástrojů seriální analýzy definuje charakteristické prvky dochovaného korpusu vojenských filmů a sérií případových studií sleduje vývoj institucionalizace vojenského filmu a vytváření formálně a stylisticky svébytné tvorby po příchodu škpt. Jiřího Jeníčka. Výsledná zjištění jsou prezentována na pozadí historických okolností a utvářejí obraz o vztahu mezi armádou, filmem a propagací.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with a film production of the Ministry of National Defence in the 30s, which was created by Film Department of Military Technical (and Aviation) Institution. Using tools of serial analysis defines the characteristic features of the extant corpus of military film and thought series of case studies follows the evolution of the institutionalization of the military movies and creating a formally and stylistically distinct formation after the arrival of Staff Captain Jiri Jenicek. The findings are presented against the background of historical circumstances and create the image of the relationship between the military, film and promotion.
