Situational method in language teaching of language functions (B1 –B2 according to the CEFR)

Abstract:

ABSTRAKT Tématem této závěrečné práce je situační metoda ve výuce jazykových funkcí na úrovni B1 a B2. Dospělí studenti na této úrovni přicházejí do kurzů z důvodu zdokonalení komunikativní kompetence a jejího využití v reálném životě. Vzhledem k používání situační metody ve výuce jazykových funkcí se snažím zjistit, zda studenti tuto metodu považují za efektivní. V teoretické části se zabývám popisem situační metody a jejím významem v komunikativně zaměřeném vyučování. S oporou Společného evropského referenčního rámce pro jazyky charakterizuji současné pojetí jazykové funkce v komunikativně zaměřeném vyučování. Na základě studia odborné literatury pracuji s doporučenými postupy pro výuku jazykových funkcí a na závěr teoretické části popisuji individuální výuku a její specifika. Cílem praktické části je pomocí 4 vyučovacích hodin zaměřených na rozvoj jazykových funkcí pro dospělé studenty na úrovni B1 a B2, ve kterých využívám principy situační metody, zjistit efektivitu této výuky. Pomocí polostrukturovaného rozhovoru a diagnostického testu se snažím zjistit zpětnou vazbu od studentů a vytvořit doporučení pro učitele anglického jazyka, jak účinně využívat situační metodu ve výuce jazykových funkcí.

Abstract:

ABSTRACT The theme of this Bachelor's thesis is situational method in language teaching of language functions (B1 – B2 according to the CEFR). Adult students with English level B1and B2 usually come to language courses in order to improve their communicative competence and further application of it in their real life. With the use of situational method in the lesson of language functions I try to find out if students consider situational method effective in teaching language functions. In theoretical part I am concerned with description of situational method and its importance in communicative language teaching. Furthermore with the resource of Common European Framework of Reference I define present approach to language function in communicative language teaching. According to the study of professional literature I work with recommended procedures for teaching language functions. In the conclusion of theoretical part I describe teaching individuals and its specification. The aim of the empirical part is to find out the effectiveness of situational method. With the help of 4 lesson focused on development of language functions where I use the principles of situational method for adult students with level of English B1 and B2. By means of semi-structured interviews and diagnostic test I try to get the feedback from my students and create recommendation for English teachers how to use situational method effectively in teaching language functions.
