Seniors´ satisfaction with the communication of nursing staff

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem bakalářské práce bylo zjistit, zda jsou geriatričtí pacienti spokojeni s verbální i neverbální komunikací, zda jsou pro seniora sdělené informace dostačující a srozumitelné a zda je přístup sester k nemocnému dostatečně příjemný a laskavý. Metodika: Průzkum probíhal na oddělení následné péče v nemocnici ve Valašském Meziříčí pomocí dotazníků vlastní tvorby. Bylo osloveno celkem 100 respondentů, návratnost kompletně vyplněných dotazníků byla 83%. Výsledky: Z výsledků vyplívá, že sestry nemají na komunikaci s pacienty čas, hospitalizovaným seniorům chybí také dostatek soukromí na rozhovor s ošetřujícím personálem. Dle zjištěných poznatků pacienti převážně hodnotí vystupování sester jako příjemné a jejich přístup jako laskavý. Dále bylo zjištěno, že pro nemocné je při komunikaci velmi důležitý i úsměv ošetřujícího personálu. Za nejméně příjemné označili respondenti zamračení a výrazný parfém. Nemocní také označili informace, které jim zdravotnický personál podává, za dostačující a srozumitelné. Komunikaci a chování sester podle hospitalizovaných seniorů nejvíce ovlivňují únava (30%) a nedostatek času (29%). Dle výsledků výzkumného šetření se dá říci, že velké pro-cento dotazovaných seniorů je s komunikací zdravotnického personálu spokojeno. Závěr: Správná komunikace mezi jedinci není jednoduchá. Mnohem složitěji se komunikuje se seniory, kteří nedoslýchají, špatně vyslovují nebo mají jinou ze smyslových poruch. Proto je důležité si tuto skutečnost uvědomit a snažit se co nej-více komunikaci s hospitalizovaným seniorem usnadni, zpříjemnit a navodit vztah důvěry mezi zdravotníkem a nemocným.

Abstract:

Aim: The aim of the bachelor thesis is to find out if geriatric patients are satisfied with verbal and non-verbal communication, whether the information provided to the seniors is sufficient and understandable and whether the access of the nurses to the patient is pleasant and kind. Methodology: The research was carried out in the department of follow-up care at the hospital in Valašské Meziříčí using self-created questionnaires. The total number of 100 respondents was asked to fill in the questionnaires, but there are 83% of fully completed ones. Results: The results show that nurses do not have enough time to communicate with patients, hospitalized seniors also miss the privacy during the interview with the nursing staff. According to the research, patients predominantly evaluate nursing as pleasant and their approach as kind. It was also found that the smile of the care staff is very important for communication. As the least affectionate the respondents marked frowning and expressive perfume. The sick seniors have also indicated that information provided by the medical staff is sufficient and understandable. Communication and behaviour of nurses by hospitalized seniors are mostly influenced with tiredness (30%) and lack of time (29%). According to the results of the research, it can be said that a large percentage of the interviewed seniors are satisfied with the communication of the medical staff. Conclusion: Correct communication among individuals is not easy. It is much more complicated to communicate with seniors who do not hear, misspell, or have any other sensory disorder. However, it is important to realize this fact and try to make communication with the hospitalized senior as easy as possible, to make the relationship between the patient and the patient easier and more comfortable.
