Living in the mountains - an anthropological view on alpine pasturing in Austria

Abstract:

Předmětem této práce je komplexní a mnohostranný vhled do života a kultury horských obyvatel rakouských Alp z obecně antropologického hlediska. Práce je přirom zaměřena na salašnictví jakožto významný prvek rakouské horalské kultury. Zkoumala jsem život horských obyvatel na salaších a jeho rozmanité podoby, četné funkce salašnictví a také jeho sociokulturní aspekty. Významným tématem byly také vzájemné interakce salašnictví s turistickým ruchem. Interdisciplinární přehled o historii, současnosti a budoucnosti salašnictví, a o vývoji horského turismu v Rakousku poskytnul široký teoretický rámec pro hlavní část výzkumu: případové studie jednotlivých salašníků ze dvou vybraných údolí rakouských Alp (Zillertal v západním Rakousku a Sölktäler ve východním Rakousku). Případové studie posloužily k vytvoření osobního, individuálního obrazu života a kultury rakouských salašníků. Komplexní a mnohostranný pohled na život a kulturu salašníků doplňuje exkurze do náboženství a pověstí rakouských alpských obyvatel.

Abstract:

The thesis "Living in the mountains - an anthropological view on alpine pasturing in Austria" has the aim to create a complex view on the issue of alpine pasturage in Austria from the standpoint of socio-cultural anthropology. The research technique was based mainly on open field-studies, and qualitative interviews with herdsmen in two Austrian alpine valleys (Zillertal in western Austria, and Sölktäler in eastern Austria). From this interviews I elaborated some case studies, which shall show individual life stories of Austrian herdsmen. Furthermore, I made wide-ankled research in relevant professional literature, some on-line sources and other sources. In the thesis there are discussed issues like the a short global outline of settlement in the Austrian mountains and main aspects of Austrian alpine pasturage. Furthermore, the thesis focuses on Austrian mountain tourism, and its interactions with alpine pasturage. In the last chapter there are discussed some aspects of Austrian folk-tales and devoutness, which shall contribute to a complex view on the issue of this topic.
