Optimization and simulation of odds betting

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá optimalizací a simulací kurzového sázení. Prezentuje několik variant modelu pro predikci pravděpodobností výsledků fotbalových utkání a dokazuje, že sázení na základě statistických metod je spolehlivější a úspěšnější než na základě expertízy průměrného hráče. Práce porovnává jednotkovou návratnost investic a výherní podíl kurzového sázení zjištěný Národním monitorovacím střediskem pro drogy a závislosti. Vzájemně budou srovnány a bude zjištěno, zdali se opravdu vyplatí sázet na základě pravděpodobností určených relativně jednoduchým regresním modelem. Je rozdělena na dvě části: teoretickou a praktickou. Teoretická část se zaměřuje na základní pojmy kurzového sázení, jeho legislativu, dopady na zdraví a principy sázkových strategií. Dále popisuje vybrané regresní modely použité v praktické části. Praktická část je zaměřena na vytvoření modelů pro predikce pravděpodobností jednotlivých výsledků, od získání a předzpracování dat až po samotné vytvoření modelů a evaluaci jejich výkonu. Následně je zkombinuji do jednoho „ensemble modelu“, kterého vytvořím tři varianty. Výsledky různých kombinací variant rozhodovacího systému a strategií jsou zhodnoceny a bylo vytvořeno doporučení, kterou z nich by měl čtenář použít. Také je doporučen sázecí systém, který je nejvíce vhodný pro použití v obdobných případech, a možnosti jeho přizpůsobení. Závěr obsahuje analýzu a sumarizaci výsledků a možnosti rozšíření této práce. Také je v něm detailně rozepsán její přínos. Přínosem práce je demonstrace, že použití statistických metod na úrovni vysokoškolského studenta pro kurzové sázení může dosahovat nadprůměrných výsledků a případně i zisku. Dalším přínosem je obecný návod pro tvorbu regresního modelu pro predikci pravděpodobností a vytvořený kombinovaný model.

Abstract:

The topic of this bachelor thesis is the optimization and simulation of odds betting. It presents several variants of a model for predicting the probabilities of football match outcomes and shows that betting based on statistical methods is more reliable and successful than betting based on the expertise of an average player. The paper compares the unit return on investment and the prize share of odds betting found by the National Drug and Addiction Monitoring Centre. They will be compared to each other to determine whether it is indeed worth betting based on the probabilities determined by a relatively simple regression model. It is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part focuses on the basic concepts of odds betting, its legislation, health effects and the principles of betting strategies. It also describes selected regression models used in the practical part. The practical part focuses on the creation of models for predicting the probabilities of individual outcomes, from data acquisition and pre-processing to the actual development of the models and evaluation of their performance. I will then combine them into one ensemble model of which I will create three variants. The results of the different combinations of decision system variants and strategies are analyzed, and a recommendation was made as to which one the reader should use. Further recommended is the betting system that is most suitable for use in similar cases and the possibilities of its adaptation. The conclusion contains an analysis and summary of the results and possibilities for extending this work. It also details its contribution. The contribution of this thesis is to demonstrate that usage of statistical methods for odds betting at the level of a university student can achieve above average results and possibly profit. Another contribution is the general guidance for development of a regression model used for predicting probabilities and the combined model created for this thesis.
