An Image of Ukraine on Pages of the Slavonic Overview Magazine in 1925-1939

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se věnuje ukrajinské problematice na stránkách časopisu Slovanský přehled v letech 1925–1939. Cílem práce je představit obraz Ukrajiny v tomto periodiku, okomentovat a analyzovat zprávy a texty, které byly ve vymezené časové periodě o Ukrajině publikovány. V prvních kapitolách je představen politický a historický kontext daného období, který umožní čtenáři se lépe zorientovat v situaci, ve které se ukrajinské obyvatelstvo v meziválečném Polsku, SSSR, Československu a Rumunsku nacházelo. Jedna z kapitol je věnována časopisu Slovanský přehled, ve které jsou uvedeny medailonky redaktorů a referentů, kteří se podíleli na tvorbě obsahu s ukrajinskou tématikou. Následuje představení historie vzniku a vývoje daného periodika. Dále jsou v práci uvedeny shromážděné texty a zprávy, které jsou seřazeny do seznamů podle ročníků, okomentovány a následně analyzovány. V příloze je dostupný veškerý textový materiál s ukrajinskou tématikou, který se nám podařilo shromáždit.

Abstract:

This master’s thesis deals with the Ukrainian topics presented on the pages of the magazine Slovanský přehled (“Slavonic Overview”) in the interwar years 1925–1939. The goal of this thesis is to introduce the image of Ukraine in this magazine by commenting and analysing the reports and texts about Ukraine that were published in the defined period. The first chapters present the political and historical context of the period, which allow the reader to come to understand the situation in which the Ukrainian population in interwar Poland, the USSR, Czechoslovakia and Romania was. One of the chapters is directly devoted to the magazine Slovanský přehled, where the medallions of editors and contributors who participated in the creation of the Ukraine-focused content are listed. The following chapter is an introduction to the history of the origin and development of the magazine. Furthermore, the thesis contains collected texts and reports, which are commented, analysed and sorted by volume. All the discussed material which we managed to collect is available in the appendix.
