Open Veins of Latin America as a protest against backwardness

Abstract:

I my Bachelor?s thesis I deal with the book Las venas abiertas de América Latina (The Open Veins of Latin America) written by Uruguayan author Eduardo Galeano, who deals with economic problems of Latin America in this book. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first, theoretical one, is about backwardness of South America in general, about the history of Uruguay, the author, and finally the book which is the subject of the thesis. The practical part is about the key topics of the book ? imperialism and the domination of Latin American market by British and North American companies, enslavement of indigenous people of South America and importation of African slaves, the Latin American inhabitants? poverty and ignorance that have caused that Latin America belongs to the third world countries . I based the book Las venas abiertas de América Latina, then I used professional works of Latin American literature and history, essays by different economists and internet articles devoted to this topic.

Abstract:

Ve své bakalářské práci se zabývám knihou Las venas abiertas de América Latina (Otevřené žíly Latinské Ameriky), která byla napsána Eduardem Galeanem, uruguayským autorem, který se v tomto díle zabývá ekonomickými problémy Latinské Ameriky. Práce je rozdělena na dvě části. V teoretické části jsem se nejprve zabývala obecně zaostalostí Jižní Ameriky, poté historií Uruguaye, samotným autorem a nakonec knihou, která je předmětem této práce. V praktické části jsem se věnovala klíčovým tématům díla, jako je imperialismus a ovládnutí latinskoamerického trhu anglickými a severoamerickými společnostmi, zotročování původního obyvatelstva Jižní Ameriky a dovoz afrických otroků, chudoba latinskoamerických obyvatel a ignorance, kvůli které Latinská Amerika patří mezi země třetího světa. Při vypracovávání jsem samozřejmě vycházela z knihy Las venas abiertas de América Latina, dále jsem používala odborná díla o latinskoamerické literatuře a historii, eseje nejrůznějších ekonomů a velké množství internetových článků věnovaných této tématice.
