The Theme of Madness in Fiction Written in English
Abstract:
This thesis deals with the theme of madness as it is depicted in four works written in English—The Fall of the House of Usher by E.A.Poe, The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins, The Grass Is Singing by Doris Lessing and Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys. It concentrates on the way the insane characters are portrayed (symptoms, roots of madness, attitude of the society to the mentally ill person).
