Rehabilitation of a patient with Parkinson?s Disease in advanced stage: case report

Abstract:

Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative-chronic-progressive disease. It includes motor disorders such as bradykinesia, resting tremor, stiffness and balance disorders with a high risk of falling; and non-motor disorders such as depression, obsessivecompulsive disorder, dementia, sleep disorders and polyorganic dysfunction. Parkinson's disease causes severe limitations in walking and in the normal course of daily life activities. This study wants to highlight the great difficulties that affected patients, forced to spend a lot of time in a wheelchair, have to face in environments not built to move without encountering obstacles. The presentation of the clinical case aims to highlight the diversity of the disease and the multifactorial nature of the therapeutic approach. In fact, each patient is different from the others, thus requiring a specific and customized rehabilitation program. Various rehabilitative approaches are analyzed and the importance of aids that aim to increase patient autonomy. Architectural barriers limit the development of the patient's social life, which risks feeling increasingly isolated from everyday contexts.
