Abstract:

Teoretická diplomová práca sa zaoberá hľadaním nových foriem reprezentácie rómskej identity vo fotografii. Pozornosť je venovaná predovšetkým súčasným umelcom a umelkyniam rómskeho pôvodu, ktorí sa programovo zaoberajú témou identity a na vyjadrenie svojich umeleckých konceptov využívajú fotografiu ako jeden z umeleckých prostriedkov. Predstavené sú diela rómskych umelcov a umelkýň, ktoré poukazujú na inštitucionálnu segregáciu, stigmatizáciu a pretrvávajúce stereotypy. Práca sa v úvodnej časti venuje fotografiám, ktoré boli vytvorené nerómskymi fotografmi a ich obsahy konfrontuje s reflexiami súčasných umelcov a umelkýň. Ďalej práca poukazuje na disproporciu v zobrazovaní Rómov a tiež na vplyv politiky, nastavenie spoločnosti a s tým súvisiace diskriminačné praktiky, ktoré mali dlhodobý negatívny vplyv na postavenie rómskeho umenia v histórii dejín umenia. Cieľom práce je ukázať posun v zobrazovaní rómskej identity v súčasnom umení a prezentovať rómsku identitu z pohľadu rómskych umelcov a umelkýň.

Abstract:

The theoretical diploma thesis deals with the search for new forms of representation of Roma identity in photography. The attention is focused primarily on contemporary Roma artists who programmatically deal with the theme of identity and use photography as one of their artistic medium to express their concepts. The works of Roma artists which are presented point to institutional segregation, stigmatization, and persistent stereotypes. The thesis in its introductory section focuses on photographs created by non-Roma photographers and confronts their contents with reflections by contemporary Roma artists. Furthermore, the thesis points out the disproportion in the representation of Roma people and the impact of politics, social attitudes, and related to discriminatory practices that have had a long-term negative effect on the position of "Roma art" in the history of art. The aim of the thesis is to show a movement in the representation of Roma identity in contemporary art and to present Roma identity from the perspective of Roma artists.
