Abstract:

The thesis deals with variability and secular trend in the age at menarche. The study was based on a sample of 211 women aged between 18 and 30 years (born between years 1984 – 1998) from the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic. Information about their relatives which allowed for a pair comparison within family (daughter – mother, mother – grandmother, daughter – grandmother) was also collected. The decrease in average age at menarche from 14.06 years to 12.98 years, which was recorded during 70 years, represents an evidence for the secular trend. Higher variance in the age at menarche was recorded among the older generations and in the most cases was the age at menarche of the older family member shifted towards the higher ages. A close relationship between socioeconomic status and the age at menarche together with a higher degree of social inequality in the past might be a possible explanation. More pronounced difference between the age at menarche of mothers and daughters was recorded for women whose mother’s age at menarche was higher. The same pattern was observed for the difference between the age at menarche of maternal grandmothers and mothers. The difference between ages at menarche of two family members was closer related to the age at menarche of the older family member compared to the age at menarche of the younger family member. The relationship between the age at menarche within the family and the relationship of age at menarche with other traits of life history (timing of a reproduction, a likelihood of a divorce or a separation from a husband for mothers) were significant. Significant were also the effect of a psychosocial stress which resulted in a lower age at menarche and the relationship between the age at menarche and an adult WHR and hand measures of the left hand, which is an evidence for ontogenetic influences on postnatal sexual development.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá variabilitou a sekulárním trendem ve věku menarche. Výzkum byl realizován na vzorku 211 žen z České republiky a ze Slovenské republiky ve věku od 18 do 30 let narozených mezi léty 1984 – 1998. Současně byly zjišťovány údaje také o jejich příbuzných, což umožnilo hodnotit sledované znaky v párovém uspořádání (dcera – matka, matka – babička, dcera – babička). Bylo zjištěno, že v časovém rozmezí 70 let poklesl průměrný věk menarche z hodnot 14,06 roku na 12,98 roku, což je důkazem sekulárního trendu. Starší generace se vyznačovala vyšším rozptylem ve věku menarche a ve většině párů byl věk menarche starší generace posunutý k vyššímu věku. Může to být zapříčiněno úzkým vztahem mezi socioekonomickým statusem a věkem menarche v minulosti a zároveň vyšší mírou sociální nerovnosti. Výraznější rozdíl ve věku menarche a zkoumaných žen byl zaznamenán u žen, jejichž matky se vyznačovaly vyšším věkem menarche. To platilo i pro vztah matky – maternální babičky a tento rozdíl souvisel silněji s věkem menarche starší generace. Na zkoumaném vzorku byla dokázána souvislost věku menarche mezi některými členy rodiny, jako i souvislost věku menarche s jinými znaky životní historie, jako je načasování reprodukce, či tendence k rozvodu a odloučení od manžela. Významný byl i efekt psychosociálního stresu (snížení věku menarche). Byla zjištěna souvislost s dospělými hodnotami WHR a rozměry na levé ruce, což svědčí o ontogenetických predipozicích postnatálního pohlavního vývoje.
