Smoking and Alcohol Consummation by Romany Women During Pregnancy

Abstract:

Práce pojednává o romském etniku, o vlivu kouření a alkoholu jak na těhotnou ženu, tak na její plod a o závislosti na nikotinu a alkoholu. Cíl: Zjistit, zda jsou těhotné romské ženy závislé na nikotinu a alkoholu, jestli si uvědomují riziko kouření a požívání alkoholu a zda dostaly od porodní asistentky informace o těhotenství a životním stylu. Metodika: Ve výzkumném šetření byla použita metoda kvalitativního výzkumu. Kvalitativní výzkum byl zvolen záměrně, z důvodu spolupráce s malým souborem respondentek bez nároku na statistickou reprezentativnost. Výzkum vycházel z předpokladu kvalitativní analýzy a interpretace získaných informací, pomocí které bude možné lépe porozumět prožívání romských žen v souvislosti s kouřením a konzumací alkoholu v těhotenství. Metodou sběru dat byla použita forma individuálního rozhovoru, jehož součástí byly i odpovědi na otázky standardizovaného dotazníku ? Fagerström Test of Nicotine Dependence, Alcohol Dependence Scale. Výsledky: Na základě analýzy dat byly stanoveny kategorie a podkategorie: 1. Kouření (podkategorie Kouření v těhotenství, Kouření partnera, Kouření v přítomnosti dětí, Kouření rodičů, Vliv na zdraví, Vliv na plod, Důvod neukončení kouření); 2. Alkohol (podkategorie Konzumace alkoholu v těhotenství, Vliv na zdraví, Vliv na plod, Důvod neukončení konzumace alkoholu); 3. Informace porodní asistentky (podkategorie Průběh prenatální poradny, Životní styl). Analýzou rozhovorů a standardizovaných dotazníků bylo zjištěno, že romské ženy jsou v těhotenství závislé více na nikotinu než na alkoholu a od porodních asistentek nedostávají mnoho informací o těhotenství a životním stylu. Závěr: Romské ženy se nezajímají o vliv škodlivého účinku nikotinu a konzumovaného alkoholu na průběh těhotenství a vývoj plodu. Významná je v této oblasti prevence již v prekoncepčním, prenatálním i postnatálním období. Komunitní porodní asistentky by měly zastávat významnou roli v edukaci v oblasti životního stylu u romských žen.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the Roma ethnic group, the effects of smoking and alcohol, as a pregnant woman and her foetus and the nicotine and alcohol dependence. Target: Fin out, whether pregnant Romany females addicted to nicotine and alcohol are aware of the risk of smoking and consummation of alcohol, and whether the information on pregnancy and life style was provided to them by their midwife. Methodology: The qualitative research method was exploited in the experimental research. Such a qualitative research was selected intentionally for a reason of the cooperation with a small set of female respondents claimless the statistical representativeness. The research itself derived from the qualitative analysis precondition and interpretation of information gathered by means of which it shall be possible to comprehend a lived through experience of Romany females in association with smoking and alcohol consummation during pregnancy in a better way. As a method applied to data mining an individual interview was selected, which integral part was formed by replies to questions of the standardized questionnaire ? Fagerström Test of Nicotine Dependence, Alcohol Dependence Scale. Results: On basis of the data analysis categories and subcategories were stipulated: 1. Smoking (subcategory of Smoking in Pregnancy, Smoking Partner, Smoking in Children Presence, Parents? Smoking, Influence on Health, Influence on Foetus, Reason for Unsettled Smoking); 2. Alcohol (subcategory of Alcohol Consummation in Pregnancy, Influence on Health, Influence on Foetus, Reason for Unsettled Alcohol Consummation); 3. Midwife Information (subcategory of Development of Prenatal Clinic, Life Style). By analyzing interviews and standardized questionnaires it was found out that Romany females are addicted more to nicotine than to alcohol in duration of their pregnancy, and they were not provided with many information on pregnancy and life style by their midwives. Conclusion: Romany females are not interested in influence of nicotine and alcohol harmful effects consumed on the development of pregnancy and foetation. Distinguished in this particular area of prevention are specifically in pre-conceptual, prenatal and postnatal periods. Community midwives should represent a meaningful role in education within the field of life style of Romany females.
