The Comparison of Pirate Parties Represented in National Parliaments of the Czechia, Iceland and Luxembourg

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá pirátskými stranami, které uspěly ve svých zemích a jsou součástí národních parlamentů, jedná se o Českou pirátskou stranu, Píratar (Island) a Piratepartei Lëtzembuerg (Lucembursko). Cílem textu je komparativní metodou zjistit, jaké podmínky ovlivnily volební úspěch Pirátů, proto zohledňuje tamější stranické systémy a jejich vývoj, dále porovnává volební výsledky jednotlivých stran a jejich elektorát. Předmětem komparace je také charakteristika zvolených pirátských poslanců. Ze zjištěných informací vyplývá, že značný příliv voličů v Česku, na Islandu i v Lucembursku Pirátům přinesly turbulentní změny na tamějších politických scénách a i jejich programy obsahující liberální postoje. Hlavní složku elektorátu u všech tří porovnávaných stran tvoří především mladí voliči. Odpovídající strukturu pak mají zvolení poslanci, kteří taktéž vykazují i relativně nízký věk. V závěru je prezentována hypotéza, která poukazuje na problematický aspekt pirátského hnutí, za kterou je považována malá angažovanost regionálních osobností.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with pirate parties that have succeeded in their countries and are part of national parliaments, they are the Czech Pirate Party, Piratar (Iceland) and Piratepartei Lëtzembuerg (Luxembourg). The aim of the text is to find out what conditions influenced the electoral success of the Pirates using a comparative method, therefore it takes into account the local party systems and their development, and compares the election results of individual parties and their electorate. The subject of comparison is also the characteristics of elected pirate deputies. The information obtained shows that a significant influx of voters in the Czech Republic, Iceland and Luxembourg brought the Pirates turbulent changes on the local political scene and their programs containing liberal attitudes. The main feature of the electorate in all three parties compared is mainly young voters. The elected deputies, who also show a relatively young age, also have an appropriate structure. In the end, a hypothesis is presented, which points to a problematic aspect of the pirate movement, which is considered to be a small involvement of regional personalities.
