Hydrometeorological extremes and their impacts based on archival documents about damage caused by natural disasters

Abstract:

V této diplomové práci se věnuji hlášením o škodách způsobených hydrometeorologickými extrémy (především přívalové deště, krupobití a povodně) z důvodu udělení daňové úlevy pro poddané na panstvích Brtnice, Třebíč a Velké Meziříčí. Dalšími zdroji dat jsou daňové úlevy, korespondence mezi vrchnostenskými úřady a krajským úřadem aj. Studie se zabývá historií panství a popisuje postup při vykazování škod způsobených hydrometeorologickými extrémy. Práce dále charakterizuje dopady živelných pohrom na obyvatele velkostatků a na zemědělství v 18.–19. století. Záznamy o přírodních pohromách jsou významným zdrojem údajů pro historickou klimatologii, rozšiřují údaje o hydrometeorologických extrémech v České republice a přispívají k lepšímu pochopení současných extrémů a jejich dopadů.

Abstract:

In this MSc. thesis I deal with reports about damage caused by hydrometeorological extremes, mainly torrential rains, hailstorms and floods. These reports were written with aim to allow the taxation reduction for peasants of the estates Brtnice, Třebíč and Velké Meziříčí. Tax relief and correspondence between the domain offices and regional office etc. are another source of data. The study focuses on the history of the domains and describes the process of designating damage related to hydrometeorological extremes. Impacts of natural disasters on the inhabitants of the estates and on the agriculture in the 18th and 19th centuries are presented. Records about the natural disasters are an important source of data for the historical climatology, extend the data about the hydrometeorological extremes in the Czech Republic and contribute to the better understanding of the present extremes and their impacts.
