Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to provide the reader with detailed insight into the position and perception of American soldiers and the military in American society throughout numerous military conflicts of 20th century that involved the presence of the U.S. Armed Forces. The specific American cultural phenomena will be discussed and applied to the topic of the thesis. The initial assumption the thesis brings into question, is whether is the American soldier idolized by the American society or not. The thesis breaks down both civilian´s and soldier´s points of view.

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je detailně seznámit čtenáře s rolí amerického vojáka v americké společnosti. Pozice a vnímání jak vojáků, tak armády jsou rozebírány v souvislosti s četnými vojenskými konflikty dvacátého století, kterých se americká armáda zúčastnila. Práce popisuje osobu vojáka v kontextu typických amerických kulturních fenoménů, kterým se následně věnuje. Záměrem práce je snaha vyvrátit, nebo potvrdit domněnku, zda je americký voják společností glorifikován. Analýza pracuje s názory jak civilního obyvatelstva, tak s názory vojáků a veteránů samotných.
