Kukushka: By comparison, irony and misunderstanding to the pacifistic message.

Abstract:

Tématem práce je neoformalistická filmová analýza ruského protiválečného filmu Kukuška (2002). Práce je rozdělena do tří kapitol. První část se věnuje vymezení teoretických nástrojů neoformalistické analýzy, které budou využívány v analytické části práce. Druhá kapitola představuje popis kulturních a historických okolností, které ovlivnily vznik filmu.Třetí kapitola potom zahrnuje samotnou analýzu, ve které dokazujeme, že film dosahuje pacifistického poslání vytvářením ironie na různých úrovních významu, srovnáváním, nedorozuměním a prosazováním k válce kontrastní ideologie, vycházející ze života severského etnika Sámů.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is a neoformalist analysis of the film called Kukushka by Aleksandr Rogozhkin (2002). The film is structured to present ideological meanings in the shape of pacifistic message.The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter focuses on defining theoretical assumptions of the neoformalist analysis which will be used in my thesis. The neoformalist analysis combines ideas of Russian formalism and the knowledge of cognitive psychology. Analytical tools named dominant, fabula and syuzhet will be mainly used here to enable to specify the particular form of the film. On top of that, more knowledge will be applied to help us to describe the way how a spectator can react to this specific formal structure. The second chapter is dedicated to the description of cultural historical circumstances which influenced the origin of the film (2002). Firstly, we concentrate on the place of Kukushka in all Aleksandr Rogozhkin´s works emphasizing on repeatedly used themes and stylistic/narrational patterns.In the next subchapter we deal with the position of the film within the bounds of the dominant trend of present Russia. This trend is called Post-sots by film and literary critic Mark Lipovetsky, whose study we drew on. The final part of the thesis comprises a neoformalist analysis. The main part involves the idea claiming that to achieve pacifistic effect, the film uses the means of irony, comparison and pointing out pragmatic ideology, which is represented by a Sami woman. As we can see the use of mentioned ways changes throughout the film. Therefore, we chose the attitude where we first analyze the way how to achieve irony on different levels of meanings. Afterwards, we analyze the function of narrative segmets block by block which the film is composed of and its gradual adjustment to the requirement of the pacifistic message.
