New Orthography in French Press

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the use of the new French spelling in the French press. The aim was to find out to what extent the French spelling introduced in 1990 is used by the French press and to what extent the use of the old French spelling persists in the press. As a result, a comparative analysis of the old and new French orthography of twenty anomalies in the selected French press was carried out between 2014 and 2021. To achieve the objective, the web-based computer program Sketch Engine was used to select a corpus corresponding to the years and sources. After some basic theoretical information about the 1990 French spelling and the Sketch Engine, the bachelor thesis contains a detailed analysis of the occurrence of the analysed words in each French newspaper and magazine. The results show that, with a few exceptions, the old French spelling still dominates the press, although the use of the new French spelling is on the rise. The research is accompanied by tables and graphs with precise data.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá používáním nového francouzského pravopisu ve francouzském tisku. Cílem bylo zjistit, v jaké míře je francouzský pravopis zavedený v roce 1990 francouzským tiskem využíván a v jaké míře v tisku přetrvává používání starého francouzského pravopisu. Výsledkem je komparativní analýza starého a nového francouzského pravopisu vybraných dvaceti anomálií ve vybraném francouzském tisku, a to v letech 2014-2021. K dosažení cíle byl použit internetový počítačový program Sketch Engine, ve kterém byl zvolen korpus odpovídající daným rokům a zdrojům. Po základních teoretických informacích o francouzském pravopisu z roku 1990 a o nástroji Sketch Engine bakalářská práce obsahuje detailní analýzu výskytu analyzovaných slov v jednotlivých francouzských novinách a časopisech. Výsledky ukázaly, že až na výjimky v tisku stále převládá starý francouzský pravopis, přestože používání nového francouzského pravopisu má vzestupnou tendenci. Výzkum je doplněn o tabulky a grafy s přesnými údaji.
