The Experience of a Woman in a Relationship with a Man with Traits of Asperger's Syndrome

Abstract:

Zkušenosti žen v partnerském vztahu s mužem Aspergerovým syndromem resp. jeho rysy dosud nebyly výzkumně podloženy. Byly realizovány rozhovory se čtyřmi ženami, které byly analyzovány pomocí Inerpretativní fenomenologické analýzy (IPA). Výsledkem analýzy je pět témat: (a) netradiční ustavování vztahu, (b) mentální reprezentace partnerova specifického chování, (c) práce s limity a očekáváními, (d) význam diagnózy a (e) kompenzace. Výsledky studie nabízení vhled do zkušenosti žen, které jsou ve vztahu s mužem s rysy Aspergerova syndromu. Jsou navrhována opatření pro další výzkum.

Abstract:

The experience of women in a relationship with a man with traits of Asperger's Syndrome or with a man with Asperger's syndrome (AS) have not been explored in the research literature. Four woman with a partner with traits of AS were interviewed and the interviews were analysed using the interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). Five themes emerged from the analysis: (a) unusual forming of relationship, (b) mental representation of a partner's specific behaviour, (c) dealing with limits and expectations, (d) meaning of diagnoses, and (e) compensation. The findings of this study offer insight into the experience of women in relationship with a man with traits of Asperger's syndrome. Implications for future research are suggested.
