Wet and fen meadows vegetation of the Rožnovská Bečva valley and its changes under different management practices

Abstract:

Mokřadní a obzvláště rašelinné louky hostí mnoho vzácných druhů rostlin a patří mezi jedny z nejohroženějších ekosystémů v Evropě. Znalost vhodného způsobu obhospodařování těchto luk je klíčovým faktorem pro zachování jejich typické struktury a druhové rozmanitosti. Hlavním cílem této práce bylo vyhodnotit různé způsoby obhospodařování na lokalitě Adámky v údolí Rožnovské Bečvy v Moravskoslezských Beskydech a jejich vliv na druhové složení, druhové bohatství cévnatých rostlin, mechorostů a indikačních druhů (slatiništní specialisté a ohrožené druhy) a obsah hlavních živin (dusík, fosfor, draslík) v biomase cévnatých rostlin. Dalším cílem bylo zachytit celkovou variabilitu mokřadní a rašelinné vegetace ve zbytku údolí Rožnovské Bečvy za účelem posouzení reprezentativnosti vegetace zastoupené na lokalitě Adámky a zachycené experimentálními plochami. V rámci vyhodnocení experimentu jsem posuzovala čtyři typy obhospodařování (seč jednou a dvakrát ročně, vyhrabávání stařiny, ponechání ladem) aplikované na trvalých plochách rozmístěných v šesti znáhodněných blocích po dobu posledních 14 let. Data jsem analyzovala pomocí smíšených lineárních modelů, metody PERMDISP, CCA s Monte Carlo permutačním testem a křivek hlavních odpovědí druhů. Pomocí Expertního systému Vegetace České republiky pro automatickou klasifikaci fytocenologických snímků jsem přiřadila zapsané snímky z širšího okolí lokality Adámky k vegetačním jednotkám. Variabilitu těchto snímků jsem hodnotila pomocí metody DCA a NMDS s pasivně promítnutými proměnnými prostředí – pH a konduktivitou vody. Druhové složení experimentálních ploch bylo statisticky významně odlišné v závislosti na aplikovaném způsobu obhospodařování. Největší rozdíly byly mezi plochami sečenými a plochami nesečenými. V nesečených plochách došlo v průběhu experimentu k nárůstu množství nadzemní biomasy některých druhů, což vedlo k signifikantnímu poklesu druhové bohatosti všech tří skupin (cévnaté rostliny, mechorosty a indikační druhy). Sečené porosty se jevily druhově bohaté, s nárůstem v početnosti nízkých a indikačních druhů. Množství hlavních živin v biomase pokleslo v průběhu experimentu bez ohledu na jednotlivé zásahy, zatímco poměr N/K se zvýšil, což odráží zvýšenou limitaci fosforem na celé lokalitě. Podél hlavního gradientu, korelovaného s hodnotami pH vody a produktivitou stanoviště, jsem v údolí Rožnovské Bečvy rozlišila pět hlavních typů mokřadní a rašelinné vegetace (Caricetum nigrae, Carici echinatae-Sphagnetum, Cirsietum rivularis, Scirpetum sylvatici a Angelico sylvestris-Cirsietum palustris). Výsledky studie potvrzují významný vliv seče jakožto spolehlivého způsobu udržení rozmanitosti mokřadních a rašelinných luk.

Abstract:

Wet, and especially fen meadows are one of the most threatened and declining ecosystems throughout whole Europe, where many endangered species are preserved. The knowledge of appropriate management approach is very important in maintaining their structure and diversity. The main objective of this study was to evaluate different types of management at the locality of Adámky and its influence on species composition, richness of vascular plants, bryophytes and indicator species (mire specialists and threatened species), and concentration and ratios of major nutrients (N, P, K) in the biomass of vascular plants. Another aim was to capture entire variability of wet and fen meadows in the Rožnovská Bečva valley, Moravskoslezské Beskydy Mountains, in order to evaluate the representativeness of the vegetation at the experimental sites of the Adámky site in a wider geographical extent. Four treatments (once and twice a year mowing, litter removal and abandonment) have been applied in a block experiment over 14 years. The linear mixed effect models, PERMDISP, CCA with the Monte Carlo permutation test and principal response curves were used to evaluate the results. Classification of the vegetation with use of Expert system based on the Vegetation of the Czech Republic was also performed. Vegetation variability was analysed and visualised by DCA and NMDS analyses with water pH and conductivity passively interposed in the diagrams. Species composition was significantly diversified by different management practices and differed the most strongly among mown (once or twice a year) and not mown sites (abandonment, litter removal). Both abandonment and litter removal led to increase in aboveground biomass and to a dominance of few species, with decline in species richness being significant for all three groups of species (vascular plants, bryophytes and indicator species) On the contrary, mown plots showed high numbers of species, mainly low herbs, small sedges and indicator species. The amount of main nutrients in the biomass decreased through the time independently on treatments, while the N:P ratio increased, which reflects increasing phosphorus limitation at the locality. Well-preserved wet, and predominantly fen meadows are rather scarce in the studied region. Five vegetation types were distinguished along the gradient of pH and productivity (Caricetum nigrae, Carici echinatae-Sphagnetum, Cirsietum rivularis, Scirpetum sylvatici and Angelico sylvestris-Cirsietum palustris), with Adámky site harbouring all of these vegetation units. The result of this study concludes the importance of mowing as a reliable tool in preserving diversity of wet and fen meadows.
