Abstract:

The topic of my doctoral thesis is The Press as a factor of political mobilization. Brno’s periodical Deutsches Blatt, the direction of the study is centered around historical stories of literature and culture. The serial Deutsches Blatt issued from 1884 to 1907 in Brno was a partisan newspaper of the Deutsche Nationalpartei (German-National Party) political party which was founded after separating from the Deutschliberale Partei (German-Liberal Party) in 1891. Deutsches Blatt serialized monthly, weekly, and in the last years, it serialized daily. After 1907, Deutsches Blatt was supplied by another newspaper. The thesis has two parts. The theoretical part focuses on the development of press media in the Cisleithan area (western part of Austria-Hungarian empire), especially in the area of Moravia from 1848 till 1907. The type of the press Deutsches Blatt is defined, as well as the periodicity and the audience/readers. Another subsection will be engaged in describing the ideology of this press in Moravia and in Cistleithan area and will describe the pertinent censorship of the press. Deutsches Blatt will also be compared to other contemporary newspapers e.g.: Tagesbote aus Mähren und Schlesien and Moravská Orlice. In the practical part, particular news, rubrics, and stories will be analyzed and compared to the news, rubrics, and stories in the aforementioned newspapers issued in the same time. There will be perceived details regarding differences of reporting leading to possible possession. Knowing Deutsches Blatt was a partial newspaper based on the opinion of the Deutsche Nationalpartei (German-National Party) that spilt off from the Deutschliberale Partei (German-Liberal party), there will also be observations about possible growing of aggressiveness – even radicalization – on the pages of this newspaper targeted on its readers and contingent voters of German-National Party. In addition, the choice of patriotic literature in the form of literary supplement will be analyzed on the basis of the material and cultural/historical point of view. All of this analysis will proceed in social (historical and contemporary) aesthetic context. The primary literature is Deutsches Blatt in the issues 1884 – 1891 (Der Treue Eckart 1884 – 1887) deposited in MZK (Moravská Zemská Knihovna - Moravian Provincial Library) and in VKOL (Vědecká knihovna Olomouc – The Scientific Library Olomouc). The needed pages of newspapers are scanned. As an addition there is a list of particular news, rubrics, and stories in the supplement of the doctoral thesis.

Abstract:

Disertační práce má dvě části. Teoretická část se zaměřuje na vývoj tisku v Předlitavsku, především pak na vývoj tisku na Moravě po roce 1848. Více než dnes byl v letech 1880 – 1918 tisk klíčové médium, jak působit na veřejnost, vytvářet z čtenářů své příznivce, případně potírat své odpůrce. Tento fakt byl v té době umocněn tím, že tisku nemohla konkurovat žádná jiná média, jako je tomu dnes. Na tisk této doby je tedy pohlíženo jako na médium, které mělo moc mobilizovat širokou společnost. Aby mohla státní moc omezit destruktivní důsledky stranické řevnivosti, využívala k eliminování vlivu stranického tisku své dostupné prostředky – cenzuru. Právě míru cenzury tohoto nacionálního tisku je možné sledovat ve srovnání s jinými moravskými periodiky, jako jsou Tagesbote aus Mähren und Schlesien a Moravská Orlice. Důležitým aspektem teoretické části je zasazení periodika do politicko-kulturního kontextu doby. Cílem praktické části je rozbor vybraných článků, literárních příspěvků, politických úvodníků a komentářů, opomenuta nezůstala ani reklama jako důležitý zdroj financování periodika. I zde se nabízí možnost srovnání zkoumaného nacionálního tisku s dvěma dalšími zmíněnými novinami. Především pak srovnání Deutsches Blatt s Tagesbote aus Mähren und Schlesien poskytuje možnost pozorovat rozdíly mezi těmito dvěma periodiky, a sledovat, jak se německý nacionální tisk postupem času čím dál více vyhraňuje a radikalizuje, zaměřuje se na čtenáře, potenciální voliče Německé národní strany na Moravě.
