Habitat preferences of mountain dragonflies (Odonata) in selected regions of the Czech and Slovak Republics

Abstract:

Práce zkoumá habitatové preference pěti horských ochranářsky významných druhů vážek: Aeshna caerulea (Ström, 1783), Aeshna subarctica Walker, 1908, Leucorrhinia dubia (Vander Linden, 1825), Somatochlora alpestris (Sélys, 1840) a Somatochlora arctica (Zetterstedt, 1840) v různých chráněných oblastech. Na základě rešerše historických pramenů uvádějící výskyt vážek z vybraných oblastí (NP a CHKO Šumava, Krkonošský NP, Tatranský NP, CHKO Horná Orava a Pieninský NP) a další vědecké literatury byly identifikovány a popsány typy biotopů, které jsou pro druhy horských vážek ve vybraných oblastech významné. Jako významná stanoviště byla identifikována rašeliniště, horská jezera a antropogenní biotopy. Byly popsány faktory jako sukcese, zemědělství a změna klimatu, které ohrožují tyto biotopy a populace horských vážek možnou regionální extinkcí. Navržena byla možná managementová opatření pro jejich ochranu. I přes četné studie dokumentující výskyt populací horských vážek ve vybraných oblastech jsou studie o těchto populacích a faktorech, které na ně působí, stále potřebné.

Abstract:

The thesis examines the habitat preferences of five mountain dragonfly species of conservation significance: Aeshna caerulea (Ström, 1783), Aeshna subarctica Walker, 1908, Leucorrhinia dubia (Vander Linden, 1825), Somatochlora alpestris (Sélys, 1840) and Somatochlora arctica (Zetterstedt, 1840) in various protected areas. Based on a review of historical sources documenting the occurrence of dragonflies from selected regions (Šumava National Park and Protected Landscape Area, Krkonoše National Park, Tatra National Park, Horná Orava Protected Landscape Area, and Pieniny National Park), as well as other scientific literature, types of habitats significant for mountain dragonfly species in the selected regions were identified and described. Bogs, mountain lakes and anthropogenic biotopes were identified as important habitats. Factors such as succession, agriculture, and climate change, which threaten these habitats and mountain dragonfly populations with potential regional extinction, were described. Possible management measures for their protection were proposed. Despite numerous studies documenting the occurrence of mountain dragonfly populations in selected regions, research on these populations and the factors affecting them is still needed.
