Equine influenza

Abstract:

Equinní influenza (chřipka koní) je virové onemocnění dýchacích cest, které je vysoce nakažlivé v rámci citlivé koňské populace. Závažnost influenzy pro sportovní a dostihové koně vyplývá z klinického průběhu nemoci, rychlého šíření infekce a z trvalých následků, které může prodělané onemocnění na dýchacím aparátu koně zanechat. Koně, kteří chřipkou onemocní, musí být ihned vyřazeni z tréninku a při dostatečné rekonvalescenci se za pár týdnů vrátí do plné sportovní formy. Chřipku koní způsobují orthomyxoviry rodu A, které se na základě jejich povrchové struktury dělí na dva subtypy. Jejich důležitou vlastností je schopnost měnit se v čase. Tento antigenní drift je příčinou výskytu onemocnění také u vakcinovaných koní. Na trhu je sice množství vakcín proti koňské chřipce, ale ne všechny obsahují aktuální rody virů influenzy ohrožující danou koňskou populaci. Ve své bakalářské práci shrnuji dosavadní poznatky o equinní influenze a jejích možných následcích.

Abstract:

Equine influenza is the virus disease, which is very contagious in sensitive horse population. Importance of influenza for sport-horses or race-horses arise from clinical course of disease, fast dissemination of the infection and from possible chronic consequences on respiratory system. Diseased horses may not be in training and after couple of weeks the horses are back in regular condition. Equine influenza is caused by orthomyxoviruses of genus A. There are two subtypes with different surface structure. Their important characteristic is the ability to change their antigenic structure in time. This antigenic drift is the reason, why the vaccinated horses can be infected by influenza viruses as well. There are many types of vaccines, but not each of them involves actual types of viruses. The aim of this work is to resume present knowledge about equine influenza and about possible consequences of this disease.
