Traces of Tramping in Post-Revolutionary Czech Film

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je zjistit, jakým způsobem se v porevolučním českém filmu pracuje s fenoménem trampingu. V teoretické části se práce zabývá trampingem z hlediska subkultury, stanoví se základy trampingu, historie a jeho esence. Následně se tramping propojí s uměním a filmem, což je doplněno o teorii dokumentárních modů Billa Nicholse. V praktické části se práce věnuje konkrétním filmům natočených po roce 1989, ve kterých se tramping objevuje. Jedná se téměř ve všech případech o dokumenty, které se trampingu věnují z hlediska subkultury. Jedna z výjimek je film Amerika od režiséra Jana Foukala, který téma reflektuje odlišně. Z toho důvodu se autor v praktické části věnuje také analýze tohoto filmu, který na pomezí dokumentárního a hraného formátu reflektuje tramping unikátním způsobem.

Abstract:

The goal of this bachelor thesis is to examine how to phenomenon of tramping is portrayted in post-revolution Czech cinema. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on tramping as a subculture, establishing its foundations, history and essence. Tramping is then linked to art and film, supplemented by Bill Nichol's theory of documentary modes. In the practical part, the thesis explores specific films made after the year 1989 that features tramping. In almost all cases, these are documentaries addresing traping from subcultural perspective. One exemption is film Amerika directed by Jan Foukal, which approaches the theme differently. Therefore, the author also analyzes this film in the practical part, as it straddles the line between documentary and fiction format, offering an unique reflection on tramping.
