Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with colloquial vocabulary in the script of the movie 'Pulp Fiction'. The first chapters provide explanation of basic terms such as Standard English, dialect, and styles of language. Jargon, argot, and slang is explained in the second chapter and on the following pages the work focuses on colloquial English, its features, figurative language, and, most importantly, on swearing as an emotional language and on taboo terms and their various usage. The aim of the practical part is to find out whether three most frequent taboo words of the script are used in their literal or non-literal meaning.
