Crimes against humanity committed against the Muslim minority Rohingya in Myanmar

Abstract:

Muslimská menšina Rohingů žijící v Rakhinském státě je považována za nejperzekuovanější menšinu na světě. Dlouhodobě jsou jim upírána základní lidská práva, nemají občanství a je na nich pácháno násilí. Konfliktu je věnována mezinárodní pozornost.Práce je jednopřípadovou studií, která se zaměřuje na případ Rohingů a snaží se zjistit, zda se dá označit za genocidu. Využívá k tomu definic a výkladu mezinárodního práva a teorie "Deseti stádii genocidy". Je sledován vývoj konfliktu, činy, které ho eskalují a kroky podniknuté k jeho zastavení. Práce dochází k závěru, že se situace dá označit za genocidu, neboť naplňuje znaky používaných teorií.

Abstract:

Rohingya are a Muslim minority living in Rakhine state, Myanmar. They are seen as the most persecuted minority in the world. Their human rights are being continuously violated, they are stateless and they face regular violence. This conflict now got international attention.The bachelor’s thesis is single-subject research which focuses on the Rohingya case and explores whether it can be referred to as genocide. The thesis uses definitions and interpretations of international law as well as the "10 stages of genocide" theory. The development of the conflict is observed with attention to the acts escalating the conflict and plunging. The analysis shows that the term genocide can be applied because the case has the characteristic defined in the used theory.
