Medicines, therapeutical remedies and their application in the anthropological context.

Abstract:

V následující práci je shrnuta přítomnost a vliv léku na lidskou populaci v pravěku, ve starém Egyptě a Mezopotámii. Lék je látka upravená do definitivní podoby a s racionální pohnutkou podaná pacientovi. Na základě této zjednodušené definice a přirozené lidské zvídavosti, je zřejmé, že člověk již velmi brzy začal využívat některé přírodniny jako léky. Ty mu často přinášely úlevu, to ale na základě různých mechanizmů. Téma je proto pojato celistvě, interdisciplinárně, především z antropologického hlediska, tedy z pohledu člověka. Člověka, který se v minulosti s lékem setkával, užíval jej a také na něj měl vliv. Ten byl na jednu stranu zapříčiněn složením léku a jeho fyziologickým účinkem, na druhou stranu tím, jak a kým byl podán a jaký to mělo vliv na samotného pacienta - tedy psychosomatický účinek. Práce se pak snaží nastínit okolnosti těchto účinku a částečně na některých příkladech zhodnotit jejich poměr.

Abstract:

The following thesis summarizes the presence and influence of a cure on human population in prehistoric ages, in Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. A cure is a substance modified into a final form, which is prescribed to a patient for a rational reason. It is obvious, considering this simplified definition and natural human curiosity that humans started to use some products of nature as a cure quite early. Some of them kept bringing relief on grounds of various mechanisms. Therefore, I embraced the topic generally, interdisciplinary and first of all, from an anthropological point of view – a human point of view. Humans, who have encountered a cure over centuries, used it, and had a significant effect on it. That was caused not only by composition and physiological effect of a cure but also by the ways the cure was served and what effect it had on a particular patient – psychosomatic effect. The study attempts to outline circumstances of those effects and partially sum up their relations in several cases.
