Development of Mortality Intensity due to Alcohol-Associated Diseases in the Regions of the Czech Republic in 2014-2023

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá vývojem intenzity úmrtnosti na vybrané nemoci spojené s konzumací alkoholu v krajích České republiky v období let 2014-2023. Cílem práce je analyzovat vývoj úmrtnosti na sledované diagnózy v čase, porovnat rozdíly mezi jednotlivými kraji a zjistit, které diagnózy se na této úmrtnosti podílejí nejvíce. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována také tomu, zda se ve sledovaném období zvyšovala specifická míra úmrtnosti na nemoci spojené s alkoholem, zda rostl podíl alkoholického onemocnění jater a zda mezi kraji existovaly statisticky významné rozdíly. Práce využívá kvantitativní sekundární agregovaná data, především z Českého statistického úřadu, a metodicky se opírá o výpočet specifické míry úmrtnosti, ukazatele popisné statistiky, analýzu časových řad a jednofaktorovou analýzu rozptylu. Analýza ukazuje, že vývoj úmrtnosti na vybrané nemoci asociované s konzumací alkoholu nebyl v čase ani v prostoru rovnoměrný, potvrzuje dominantní postavení diagnózy alkoholického onemocnění jater a poukazuje na výrazné rozdíly mezi jednotlivými kraji. Téma bylo zvoleno z důvodu závažnosti zdravotních dopadů alkoholu a potřeby lépe porozumět tomu, jak se tato problematika projevuje v různých regionech České republiky. Výsledky práce přispívají k hlubšímu porozumění regionálním rozdílům v úmrtnosti spojené s alkoholem a mohou sloužit jako podklad pro další odborný výzkum i pro úvahy o prevenci a regionálně zaměřené zdravotní politice.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the development of mortality intensity due to selected diseases associated with alcohol consumption in the regions of the Czech Republic in the period 2014-2023. The aim of the thesis is to analyse changes in mortality for the observed diagnoses over time, compare differences among individual regions, and identify which diagnoses contribute most to this mortality. Special attention is also paid to whether the cause-specific mortality rate for alcohol-associated diseases increased during the observed period, whether the share of alcoholic liver disease rose, and whether statistically significant differences existed among the regions. The thesis uses quantitative secondary aggregated data, primarily from the Czech Statistical Office, and is methodologically based on the calculation of cause-specific mortality rates, descriptive statistical indicators, time series analysis, and one-way analysis of variance. The analysis shows that the development of mortality due to selected alcohol-associated diseases was not evenly distributed over time or across space, confirms the dominant position of alcoholic liver disease, and points to significant differences among individual regions. The topic was chosen because of the seriousness of the health impacts of alcohol and the need to better understand how this issue is manifested in different regions of the Czech Republic. The results of the thesis contribute to a deeper understanding of regional differences in alcohol-related mortality and may serve as a basis for further research as well as for considerations of prevention and regionally oriented health policy.
