Are there different value types among Czech women with respect to expected completed fertility

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá výzkumem současného populačního klimatu České republiky. Zaměřuje se zejména na hodnotovou stránku očekávaného reprodukčního chování českých žen fertilního věku. Jejím cílem je nalézt v souboru žen ve věku 20 – 40 let určité hodnotově odlišné typy žen z hlediska jejich motivů k očekávané konečné plodnosti. Výzkum má podobu sekundární analýzy datového souboru MPR 2005. V teoretické části je pojednáno o změnách demografického chování, které se odehrály v české populaci od roku 1989, a základních explanačních rámcích této demografické proměny – kulturních faktorech (hodnotové proměně v rámci druhé demografické tranzice) a strukturálních faktorech v souvislosti s transformačními procesy v České republice. Je zde reflektována také hodnota dítěte a vyložen koncept hypotetické konečné plodnosti. Empirická část je zaměřena na analýzu hypotetické konečné plodnosti žen. Na základě rozboru její hodnotové stránky - motivů k určitému očekávanému reprodukčnímu chování – v souladu s uvedenými výklady soudobé proměny českého populačního klimatu jsou mezi ženami identifikovány různé hodnotově odlišné typy žen. V datovém souboru nalezené hodnotové typy žen svým charakterem nasvědčují tomu, že reprodukční chování českých žen fertilního věku je tvarováno spíše faktory strukturálními – ekonomickými podmínkami a nejistotou, nežli faktory kulturními v podobě hodnotové proměny směrem k individualismu.

Abstract:

This thesis is concerned with research of current population climate in Czech Republic. It is especially focused on value aspect of expected reproduction behaviour of Czech women of fertility age. The main purpose is to identify different value types among women between the ages of 20 and 40 with respect to their reasons for expected completed fertility in the data set. This research is designed as a secondary analysis of MPR 2005 data set. In the theoretical part there are depicted demographic behaviour changes, which have taken place in Czech population since 1989, and the basic explanation frames of this demographic shift. It is dealt with cultural factors as a value shift in terms of the second demographic transition theory and structural factors in connection with transformation in Czech Republic. There are also reflected the value of children and the conception of hypothetical completed fertility. The empirical part is aimed at analysis of hypothetical completed fertility of women. The analysis of its value aspect – reasons for certain reproduction behaviour – in compliance with theoretical background of this thesis serves as a basis of identifying of different value types among Czech women with respect to expected completed fertility. In the data set there were recognised six value types of women, who do not want to have (another) child. The character of these types expresses, that reproduction behaviour of Czech women of fertility age is shaped rather by structural factors like economic conditions and insecurity, than by cultural factors in terms of the second demographic transition theory.
