Morphometric Analysis of the Small Intestine in Rabbits Fed with Milk Thistle

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá studiem vlivu dietního přísunu ostropestřce mariánského na histologickou strukturu tenkého střeva u králíků typu X HYLA broiler. Cílem experimentu bylo posoudit, zda přídavek ostropestřce mariánského v koncentraci 1 % k základní dietě ovlivní morfologii střevních klků v lačníku králíků. Experimentální zvířata byla rozdělena do dvou skupin, kde kontrolní skupina byla krmena standardní dietou a testovaná skupina dietou obohacenou o ostropestřec mariánský. Během experimentu byly sledovány zdravotní parametry zvířat a po jeho skončení byly z tenkého střeva králíků odebrány vzorky lačníku, které byly histologicky zpracovány. Postup zahrnoval fixaci vzorků formaldehydem, zalévání do parafínu, krájení řezů, a jejich barvení hematoxylinem a eosinem. Výsledky byly vyhodnoceny mikroskopickou analýzou, kde hlavním měřeným parametrem byla délka klků v mikrometrech. Přestože průměrná délka klků u testované skupiny, krmené dietou s přídavkem ostropestřce, byla delší ve srovnání s kontrolní skupinou, statistické zpracování ukázalo, že rozdíly nejsou statisticky významné. Tento výsledek naznačuje, že při dané koncentraci a délce experimentu ostropestřec mariánský neměl signifikantní vliv na střevní morfologii. Výsledky této práce mohou přispět k lepšímu pochopení vlivu ostropestřce mariánského na zdraví střev a jeho potenciální využití ve výživě zvířat. Tyto poznatky mohou být aplikovány ve veterinární medicíně a zemědělství, zejména v oblastech souvisejících s optimalizací krmných směsí pro zvířata.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the study of the influence of dietary intake of milk thistle on the histological structure of the small intestine in X HYLA broiler rabbits. The aim of the experiment was to assess whether the addition of milk thistle at a concentration of 1% to the basic diet affects the morphology of intestinal villi in the jejunum of rabbits. The experimental animals were divided into two groups, where the control group was fed a standard diet and the tested group a diet enriched with milk thistle. During the experiment, the health parameters of the animals were monitored, and at the end of the experiment, jejunum samples were taken from the rabbits' small intestines, which were histologically processed. The procedure included fixing the samples in formaldehyde, embedding them in paraffin, slicing the sections, and staining them with hematoxylin and eosin. The results were evaluated by microscopic analysis, where the main measured parameter was the length of the villi in micrometers. Although the average length of the villi in the tested group, fed a diet with the addition of milk thistle, was longer compared to the control group, statistical processing showed that the differences are not statistically significant. This result suggests that at the given concentration and duration of the experiment, milk thistle did not have a significant impact on intestinal morphology. The results of this work may contribute to a better understanding of the influence of milk thistle on intestinal health and its potential use in animal nutrition. These findings can be applied in veterinary medicine and agriculture, especially in areas related to the optimization of animal feed mixtures.
