Hamas and Hizbollah: Comparison of civil wings of the islamic movements

Abstract:

Práca porovnáva verejnú stránku Hamásu a Hizballáhu, ich pôsobenie v politickom, sociálnom a civilnom sektore. Obe islamské hnutia pôsobia ako politické strany, poskytujú dôležité charitatívne, zdravotnícke, vzdelávacie služby, prevádzkujú komerčné médiá, a zároveň sú považované za teroristické skupiny. Komparáciou rôznorodých aspektov Hamásu a Hizballáhu, ako aj iných podobných hnutí, analyzuje práca variabilné podmienky pre ich odzbrojenie a odklon od radikalizmu. V oboch uvedených prípadoch je zohľadnený historický kontext a zmeny stratégií Hamásu a Hizballáhu, rovnako ako ich súčasné postavenie na palestínskych územiach aj v Libanone, a ich organizačná štruktúra. Prostredníctvom zhodnotenia relevantných faktorov, ktoré podnecujú teroristické tendencie, a obdobnej situácie troch ďalších organizácií s civilnými a militantnými krídlami text dospieva k hypotéze o možnosti postupného prechodu Hamásu a Hizballáhu do čisto verejného sektoru.

Abstract:

The thesis compares public side of Hamas and Hizbollah, their performance in political, social and civil sector. Both Islamic movements operate as political parties, they provide essential services in charity, health, education, manage commercial networks, and both are considered to be terrorist group as well. By comparison of various aspects of Hamas and Hizbollah, similar to other movements, the thesis analyses variable conditions for their disarmament and shift from radicalism. In both given causes, historical context and strategic changes of Hamas and Hizbollah are taken into consideration, as well as their current positions in Palestinian territories and Lebanon, and organizational structure. Through evaluation of relevant factors, which stimulates terrorist tendencies, and parallel situation of three other organisations with civil and militant wings, the text comes to a hypothesis about opportunities of gradual transition of Hamas and Hizbollah into purely public sector.
