Oscar Wilde was a man of many faces – loved until he was not. Despite his criticism of the Victorian society, he was celebrated, worshipped, and adored until the first Wilde v Queensberry libel trial. This thesis aims to explore and redefine the concepts which made the Victorians tolerate Wilde along with the breaking point which became the final straw for the English elite and led to Wilde’s downfall …more
