Using authentic materials in primary English lessons

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá způsoby využívání autentických a jiných materiálů při výuce anglického jazyka na prvním stupni základní školy. Hlavním cílem práce je vyzdvihnout důležitost využívání těchto materiálů v hodinách anglického jazyka vedle používání učebnic a pracovních sešitů. Používáním autentických a jiných materiálů můžeme dětem pomoci zbavit se strachu z aktivního užívání cizího jazyka hned od počátku jejich učebního procesu. Praktická část práce je souborem příprav na hodinu s jednotlivými typy autentických materiálů dle jejich dělení v teoretické části. Přípravy na hodinu vychází hlavně z autorčiny osobní zkušenosti s využíváním těchto materiálů v jejích hodinách ve třetí třídě základní školy. Na závěr jsou popsány výsledky dotazníku pro děti, ve kterém se zjišťovala oblíbenost a přínos jednotlivých aktivit.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis studies various ways in which authentic materials can be used as a useful tool for teaching English in primary lessons. The main aim of this work was to describe the importance of using more aids in English lessons rather than purely using textbooks, workbooks and exercise books. Using authentic materials can be a way to help children lose their fear of speaking and using a foreign language at the beginning of the learning process. The practical part is based on the practical use of authentic materials in teaching which deals with the author’s personal experience with using these materials in her lessons. It includes lesson plans and children’s and author’s reflections of the lessons. At the end there are results of children’s questionnaires which shows which materials were the most attractive for them and which one were not.
