Long-term rehabilitation protocol for a patient with partial brachial plexus injury following traumatic dislocation of the shoulder: clinical case

Abstract:

The brachial plexus is defined as the point where the cervical spinal nerves exchange fibers and then go on to form the nerves that will give motor skills and sensitivity to the upper limbs and chest. Traumatic lesions of the brachial plexus are not rare compared to lesions of the lumbar plexus and are very serious because they have devastating physical and psychological consequences. The role of the physiotherapist in this type of injury is fundamental as the prevention of secondary damage and the motor and sensory enhancement must be the first objectives, with necessary adaptations to the patient and the severity of the problem.

Abstract:

Il plesso brachiale ? definito come il punto in cui i nervi spinali cervicali si scambiano fibre per poi andare a formare i nervi che daranno motricit? e sensibilit? agli arti superiori e al torace. Le lesioni traumatiche del plesso brachiale non sono rare rispetto anche a lesioni del plesso lombare e sono molto gravi poiché comportano delle conseguenze fisiche e psicologiche devastanti. Il ruolo del fisioterapista in questo tipo di lesioni ? fondamentale in quanto la prevenzione da danni secondari e il potenziamento motorio e sensitivo devono essere i primi obiettivi, con adattamenti necessari al paziente e alla gravit? della problematica.
