Literary qualities of The Lord of the Rings

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with John Ronald Reuel Tolkien's novel The Lord of the Rings. The purpose of this thesis is to demonstrate the novel's literary qualities. The research will focus specifically on the novel's depth. Through analysing different elements of fiction, this thesis will attempt to clarify how Tolkien uses those elements of fiction in order to create depth in his work. This task will involve close textual analysis of the novel. The final goal of the research is to find out how Tolkien's creative process distinguishes him from other authors of the same genre.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá románem Pán Prstenů od Johna Ronalda Reuela Tolkiena. Účelem práce je demonstrovat literární kvalitu Tolkienova díla. Výzkum se konkrétně zaměří na hloubku, která je románu obsažena. Cílem diplomové práce je objasnit, jak Tolkien používá jednotlivé literární prvky pro vytvoření hloubky ve svém díle. Tento úkol bude zahrnovat detailní analýzu textu románu. Konečným cílem výzkumu je zjistit, jak Tolkienův tvůrčí proces autora odlišuje od ostatních autorů téhož žánru.
