Cohabitation as an Alternative to Marriage

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce představuje fenomén nesezdaného soužití a zaměřuje se na jeho postupné etablování v dnešní společnosti. Práce se nejprve zabývá historickým vývojem a změnami ve společnosti, které vedly k rozšiřování této formy partnerského vztahu. Další část práce se poté věnuje názorům na partnerské vztahy, zabývá se důvody volby manželství či nesezdaného soužití a řeší otázku, zda nesezdané soužití v budoucnu nenahradí instituci manželství. Následně je nastíněna problematika zániku partnerských vztahů. Práce představuje důvody, které vedou partnery k ukončení partnerského vztahu, porovnává stabilitu manželství a stabilitu nesezdaných soužití a hledá rozdíly mezi důvody pro ukončení těchto forem partnerských vztahů. V poslední části práce mapuje výskyt nesezdaných soužití v České republice na základě Sčítání lidu, domů a bytů z roku 2011. Práce dospívá k závěru, že i přes vzrůstající oblibu nesezdaných soužití má manželství pro velkou část populace stále velký význam a hodnotu a nesezdané soužití tuto pozici manželství neohrožuje, ale představuje další formu partnerského vztahu.

Abstract:

The thesis introduces the phenomenon of cohabitation and focuses on its gradual establishment in today´s society. Firstly, the thesis deals with the historical development and changes which happened in society and which led to the spread of this form of partnership. The next part of the thesis is concerned with opinions about partnerships; it deals with the reasons for choices of marriage or cohabitation and it solves the question whether cohabitation would be the alternative to the institution of marriage in the future. Subsequently, the issue of termination of partnerships is outlined. The thesis presents the reasons which result in the termination of relationships; it compares the stability of marriage and the stability of cohabitation and it looks for the differences between the reasons for the termination of these forms of partnerships. In the final part of the thesis the number of cohabitations in the Czech Republic on the basis of Census and Housing 2011 is conducted. The thesis concludes that despite the growing popularity of cohabitations the institution of marriage still has great importance and value for the majority of the population. The position of marriage is not endangered since cohabitations represent another form of partnership.
