Promoting the self-esteem of junior high school students - a case study

Abstract:

Těžiště bakalářské diplomové práce spočívá ve zkoumání fenoménu sebeúcty u žáků nižšího gymnázia jakožto prostředku k podpoře učení a rozvoje osobnosti žáka. Sebeúcta má v dospívání vliv na řadu oblastí, mnohé z nich ovlivňují i proces edukace, proto se domnívám, že je podstatné zjistit, jak se k podpoře sebeúcty staví pedagogičtí pracovníci. Teoretická část popisuje vztah sebeúcty a souvisejících pojmů, představuje faktory ovlivňující sebeúctu, její benefity pro adolescenty a analyzuje téma sebeúcty v školských dokumentech. Praktická část zahrnuje metodologický postup, výzkum provedený v terénu, analýzu školního vzdělávacího plánu vybrané školy a výsledky výzkumu. Cílem výzkumu je získat odpověď na zmíněnou otázku a přiblížit pohled pedagogů na toho téma. Práce má charakteristiku případové studie, v rámci které byly použity dvě metody výzkumu – ohnisková skupina a analýza dokumentů. Metoda ohniskové skupiny pro získání pohledu pedagogických pracovníků a analýza dokumentů pro zjištění přístupu vybraného gymnázia.

Abstract:

The aim of the Bachelor's thesis is to investigate the phenomenon of self-esteem in junior high school students as a means to promote learning and personality development of the stu-dent. Self-esteem has an impact on a number of areas in adolescence, many of which influ-ence the process of education, therefore I believe it is essential to find out how teachers ap-proach the promotion of self-esteem. The theoretical part describes the relationship between self-esteem and related concepts, presents the factors influencing self-esteem, its benefits for adolescents and analyses the topic of self-esteem in school documents. The practical part includes the methodological procedure, research conducted in the field, analysis of the School Curriculum of the selected school and the results of the research. The aim of the re-search is to get answer to the mentioned question and to approach the teachers' perspective on the topic. The thesis has the characteristics of a case study in which two research methods were used – focus group and document analysis. The focus group method to get the per-spective of the teaching staff and document analysis to explore the approach of the selected high school.
