Methodics, Standards and Recommendations for Work with Medically Disadvantaged Library Users

Abstract:

Diplomová práce Metodiky, standardy a doporučení práce se zdravotně znevýhodněnými uživateli knihoven poukazuje na ty dokumenty, které popisují, aprobují a doporučují služby veřejných knihoven s ohledem na zdravotně znevýhodněné uživatele, a to jak v českém, tak i mezinárodním měřítku. První oddíl předkládané práce informuje o mezinárodních dokumentech, které se týkají poskytování služeb handicapovaným uživatelům v knihovnách. Z některých těchto dokumentů vychází i veřejné knihovny v České republice. Druhá část práce se obecně zaměřuje na české dokumenty, ve kterých je zmíněna role knihoven a pokyny pro poskytování služeb uživatelům se zdravotním znevýhodněním. Stěžejním oddílem teoretické části je kapitola věnující se dvěma novým, zcela specifickým dokumentům, Standardu Handicap Friendly a metodice k tomuto materiálu. Studii doplňuje aplikovaný výzkum, jehož cílem bylo zjistit, jak jsou krajské a bývalé okresní knihovny připraveny plnit podmínky ve Standardu.

Abstract:

The master’s thesis entitled “Methodics, Standards and Recommendations for Work with Medically Disadvantaged Library Users” deals with documents that describe, accept and recommend public libraries’ services with regard to medically disadvantaged users both in Czech and international context. The first part of the thesis provides information about international documents which concern provision of services for handicapped users in libraries, with some of these documents representing a reference point for public libraries in the Czech Republic as well. The second part of the thesis focuses on Czech documents that mention the role of libraries and instructions for provision of services for medically disadvantaged users. The key component of the theoretical part is the chapter concentrating on two new specific documents - Handicap Friendly Standard and methodics to this material. The study is accompanied by applied research aiming to find out to what extent Czech regional and former district libraries are ready to meet the Standard’s conditions.
