The Role of Cryptocurrencies in Financialization

Abstract:

Financializace je současný světový fenomén. Jedná se o proces, v němž finanční zprostředkovatelé a technologie získali velký vliv na každodenní život lidí, mezi kterými se zvýšila nerovnost. Podniky místo toho, aby reinvestovaly svůj zisk zpět do reálné výroby, investují tyto peníze na kapitálových trzích. Vznikl obrovský trh finančních derivátů, kde nedochází ke vzniku nových produktů, ovšem dochází pouze k přerozdělování peněz. Stává se tak z finančních motivů. Velkým aspektem v této situaci je stálé uvolňování většího množství peněz do oběhu téměř všemi státy na světě. Běžní lidé tak přišli o moc nad svými penězi. Po krizi v roce 2009 vznikla první kryptoměna s názvem Bitcoin. Její tvůrce (tvůrci) popsal ve whitepaperu, že se jedná o elektronickou hotovost a cílem je umožnit lidem posílat platby přímo z jedné strany na druhou, aniž by musely procházet přes důvěryhodnou třetí stranu. Tato kryptoměna má omezené množství, přibližně 21 000 mincí, kde při zachování kódu, na kterém běží, je nemožné množství změnit. Lidem je tak poskytnuta možnost bezpečně si zachovat ekonomickou hodnotu. Velkou otázkou je, jak se k tomu postaví světové vlády, ale i jednotlivci. Kryptoměny, a tedy především Bitcoin, stále více přitahují pozornost veřejnosti i velkých společností. V práci je provedena analýza současného postavení kryptoměn ve světě se zaměřením na Českou republiku. Tato analýza je nestranným náhledem do problematiky a možnou odpovědí na otázku, zda-li je vhodné přijímat platby kryptoměnami v podniku. Cílem této práce je poukázat na možné řešení problémů současného měnového systému. Poslední kapitola se zabývá praktickým návodem pro společnosti, ale i jedince, jak mohou začít využívat technologie Bitcoinu a začít přijímat a zároveň posílat platby.

Abstract:

Financialisation is a current global phenomenon. It is a process in which financial intermediaries and technology have gained a major influence on the daily lives of people, among whom inequality has increased. Instead of reinvesting their profits back into real production, businesses are investing this money in the capital markets. A huge financial derivatives market has emerged, where no new products are created, but only money is redistributed. This is happening for financial motives. A major aspect of this situation is the constant release of more money into circulation by almost all the countries of the world. Ordinary people have thus lost the power over their money. After the crisis in 2009, the first cryptocurrency called Bitcoin was created. Its creator(s) described in a whitepaper that it is electronic cash and the goal is to allow people to send payments directly from one party to another without having to go through a trusted third party. This cryptocurrency has a limited amount, approximately 21,000 coins, where it is impossible to change the amount while keeping the code it runs on. This gives people the ability to safely retain economic value. The big question is how the world's governments, and individuals, will act about this. Cryptocurrencies, and therefore Bitcoin in particular, are increasingly attracting the attention of the public and also large corporations. This work analyses the current status of cryptocurrencies in the world with a focus on the Czech Republic. This analysis is an impartial insight into the issue and a possible answer to the question whether it is appropriate to accept cryptocurrency payments in a company. The aim of this work is to point out possible solutions to the problems of the current currency system. The last chapter deals with practical guidance for companies, as well as individuals, on how they can start using Bitcoin technology and start accepting and sending payments.
