Issues of automation and robotization of the sorting process of parcels in a selected company

Abstract:

Vhodná automatizace, popřípadě robotizace procesu třídění zásilek je problém, na který se v poslední době zaměřuje čím dál více logistických firem. Cílem této diplomové práce bylo identifikovat výhody a nevýhody, které s sebou automatizace a robotizace tohoto procesu mohou nést. První část práce je věnována rešerši literatury, která se zaměřuje nejen na samotnou automatizaci a robotizaci třídění, ale i na další faktory, které je ovlivňují. Sem patří zejména nejčastěji se vyskytující druhy zásilek co do rozměrů, hmotnosti, ale také obalového materiálu s vazbou na jejich následnou tříditelnost. V druhé části práce byla provedena analýza procesu třídění zásilek ve vybraném podniku a byla identifikována kritická místa tohoto procesu. Kritickými oblastmi jsou manipulace s těžkými zásilkami při vkládání do stroje a poté manipulace s přepravními klecemi, která způsobuje dočasnou neefektivitu strojního třídění. K oběma problémům bylo navrženo jejich řešení, kdy v obou případech se jednalo o začlenění robotů do procesu třídění zásilek. Navrženo bylo pořízení kolaborativních robotů a autonomních mobilních robotů.

Abstract:

The challenge of implementing effective automation or robotization in the parcel sorting process has become a focal point for an increasing number of logistics companies. The objective of this thesis was to identify the advantages and disadvantages associated with the automation and robotization of this process. The first part of the thesis is dedicated to a literature review that focuses not only on the automation and robotization of sorting itself, but also on other factors that influence it. These include the most common types of parcels in terms of dimensions, weight, and packaging materials in relation to their subsequent sortability. In the second part of the thesis, an analysis of the parcel sorting process in a selected company was carried out and the critical points in this process were identified. The critical areas are the handling of heavy parcels during the loading phase into the sorting machine and the subsequent manipulation of the transport cages, which causes temporary inefficiencies in the machine sorting. Solutions were proposed for both issues, and in both cases the proposed solutions involved the integration of robots into the sortation process. Specifically, the acquisition of collaborative robots and autonomous mobile robots was recommended.
