Mobile Music Studies: new field survey with focus on music listening and technology

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské diplomové práce je představit obor Mobile Music Studies, který je zakotven v několika monografiích, a vytyčit tak základní terén pro další navazující studium. Práce mapuje vybraná témata vědního oboru zabývajícího se mobilitou hudby, který se ovšem neomezuje pouze na mobilní zařízení používaná při reprodukci, ale na komplexní problematiku mobility hudby ve veřejném prostoru. Práce představí základní teze týkající se mobilního poslechu hudby, technologií a průniky v rámci populární kultury. Vzhledem k nízkému povědomí o problematice v českém prostředí se práce pokusí dodat český kontext, včetně seznamu prací, které se zabývají některou konkrétní oblastí studií mobilní hudby. Práce vychází především z textů Michaela Bulla a svazků The Oxford Handbook of Mobile Music Studies I a II.

Abstract:

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to introduce the field of Mobile Music Studies, which is embedded in several books, and to lay out the basic ground for further study. The thesis maps selected topics in the field of music mobility, which is not limited itself to mobile devices used in reproduction but to the complex issue of music mobility in the public space. The thesis will present the basic theses concerning the mobile listening of music, technologies and penetration within the popular culture. Due to the low awareness of the topics in the Czech context, the thesis will try to provide it, including a list of works that focus on specific areas of mobile music studies. Primarily, the thesis is based on the texts of Michael Bull and The Oxford Handbook of Mobile Music Studies I and II.
