Universal Darwinism as a Scientific Theory

Abstract:

Univerzální darwinizmus je sjednocující program, který předpokládá, že vznik veškerých komplexních adaptivních struktur lze vysvětlit pomocí univerzálního darwinovského algoritmu. Ten lze jednoduše vyjádřit pomocí principů variace, replikace a selekce. Za použití konceptuální analýzy těchto principů a empirických zjištění, zkoumá tato práce některé z podmínek, které jsou nutné pro to, aby mohla být tato teorie považována za vědeckou. Dílčím problémem práce jsou definice pojmů evoluce, biologické evoluce, genu a jejich vzájemné vztahy. Tato vymezení jsou poté použita při analýze samotné.

Abstract:

Universal Darwinism is uniting program, which assumes that origin of all complex adaptive structures can be explained using the universal Darwinian algorithm. This algorithm can be easily expressed as principles of variation, replication and selection. Using conceptual analysis of these principles and empirical findings, this thesis examines some of the requirements, which are necessary for this theory to be considered scientific. Partial goal of the thesis is defining the terms evolution, biological evolution, gene, and their mutual relations. These definitions are then used during the analysis.
