Metacognition and Mental Health Literacy in Preschool Classrooms

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce bylo vymezit pojmy metakognice a duševní zdraví, a především hledání možné spojitosti mezi nimi. S rostoucím úspěchem využití metakognice v oblasti učení bylo záměrem této práce zjistit, zda by se dala využít i v oblasti duševního zdraví, a to především u dětí v předškolním věku, kdy si děti teprve vytvářejí znalost o duševní hygieně. Teoretická část se zabývala metakognicí od doby jejích kořenů až po názory současných autorů, jedna část se zaměřila také na metakognici v předškolním věku a byl zde vymezen také pojem autoregulace, jako součást metakognitivních postupů. Součástí teoretické části byl dále vysvětlen pojem duševní zdraví, duševní hygiena, psychická deprivace a znalost duševního zdraví u předškolních dětí. Cílem empirické části bylo objasnění znalosti předškolních dětí o jejich duševní hygieně a hlavně odhalení možného vlivu metakognice na znalost duševního zdraví. Jako vzorek byli zvoleni žáci mateřské školy v předškolním věku od tří do sedmi let. Ke kvantitativnímu výzkumu byl použit korelační výzkumný design, kdy byl zjišťován vztah mezi ZDH (znalost duševní hygieny) a přesností úsudků předškolních dětí. Pro sběr dat byla použita autorkou práce vytvořená metoda testu znalosti předškolních dětí o duševní hygieně.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis was to specify the terms "metacognition" and "mental health" and especially to find the possible connection between them. With the growing success of the using of metacognition in the field of learning, the goal of this work was to find out, if it would be possible to use it also in the field of mental health and especially among the preschool aged children, when those children are just creating their knowledge about the mental hygiene. The theoretical part was dealing with metacognition from points of view of the contemporary authors, one part was also focusing on the metacognition in preschool age and there was the term "self-regulation" defined as well, as a part of the metacognitive methods. Furthermore, the terms "mental health", "mental hygiene" "deprivation" and "the knowledge of the mental health of preschool children" were explained in the theoretical part. The aim of the empirical part was the clarification of the preschool children´s knowledge about their mental hygiene and mainly the uncovering of the possible influence of metacognition on the knowledge of the mental health. As a sample there were pupils of the nursery school in preschool age three to seven chosen. For the purpose of the quantitative research a correlative research design was used, where the relation between KMH (knowledge of mental hygiene) and the accuracy of the judgment of preschool age children was inquired. For the data collection there was the preschool children´s knowledge of mental hygiene test method used, this test was developed by the author of this work.
